Shuhei Samejima (鮫島 修平, Samejima Shūhei) is a demon slayer in Alcyon Corporation's offense division. He is Akemi Himeno and Clover's squad leader, and serves as one of Hiro Nimura's rivals.

Appearance
Shuhei is a young man with dark eyes and spiky black hair worn in a short fish tail-like ponytail. The only piece of the Alcyon Corporation uniform he wears is the white dress shirt, which he leaves unbuttoned with a black tank top underneath it. His armband also more resembles a tied bandana. He also wears grey slacks, white sneakers, and a pair of fingerless gloves.
Personality
Despite his somewhat rough appearance and way of speaking, Shuhei is a serious and (usually) calm person. He takes pride in doing his job "the proper way" - efficiently and with as little bloodshed as possible. In combat, he is cautious, preferring to scout things out and gain a full understanding of the situation before entering the fray; this often causes him to come into conflict with his partner Akemi, who prefers to leap before looking. However, he is also shown to be decisive and pragmatic when he needs to improvise.
He describes himself as someone who enjoys a good debate, but it may be more accurate to say that he is somewhat stubborn and has trouble admitting when he is wrong. During his arguments with Akemi, he often insists he is objectively right, even if the subject is a matter of opinion or it's already apparent that Akemi is correct. He is even willing to bribe Clover to take his side in these arguments, though less often than Akemi.
He cultivates bonsai in his spare time and takes great pride in this hobby, though Akemi has a tendency to make fun of him for it.
Powers & Abilities
Mist-Casting Practitioner: Shuhei has learned the basic light spell in order to supplement his mare, but is not yet able to cast it without the sigils. Akemi refers to his technique as "sloppy and unreliable".
Mist-Boosting Master: Mist-boosting is stated to be Shuhei's specialty, and he uses it to grant himself considerable durability and physical strength. He excels at hand-to-hand combat, being able to block strikes from midnight-rank demons, toss foes into the air, and get up mostly unharmed after being thrown through several trees.
High Mist Capacity: As a twilight-rank diver and the leader of his own squad, Shuhei possesses large mist reserves. His aura is grey.
Mare
Shadow Shark is a manipulation-type mare that allows Shuhei to travel through shadows. By activating his ability and stepping into a shadow, he can emerge instantaneously from another shadow. Shadows that are close by and have sharp edges are the easiest to use in this way, while fuzzier or farther shadows require more effort and mist to teleport to. Somewhat ironically, this means his ability works best when he is under harsh, direct light.
- Shadow Sense: As a secondary ability, Shuhei seems to be able to sense all shadows within a limited range of himself, allowing him to "see" through walls and detect nearby enemies if the lighting conditions are favorable. This technique is unnamed.
- Shadow Ambush: Shuhei can hide inside a shadow as long as it remains stationary, and is hidden from mist-sense while he does so. He can bring people or objects with him as long as he maintains his grip on them, but this is not practical for hiding allies long-term as they cannot breathe while inside the shadow. This technique is unnamed.
