Yui Amagai (雨谷 結, Amagai Yui) was an employee of Alcyon Corporation. After being assassinated, her soul became a demon in oneirosea, also referred to as Yui (ゆい). Shortly before her death, she saved the life of Hiro Nimura, unwittingly setting the events of the story into motion.

Appearance
Yui was a woman of average height, with pale skin and dark eyes. She had straight blue hair that fell to her waist, in a similar shade to Hiro. At work, she wore a lab coat with the green R&D armband on the left sleeve over a standard Alcyon Corporation uniform. She usually wore a serious, closed-off expression, and often had bags under her eyes.
In Hiro's flashbacks, she does not wear the lab coat or armband. She also appears taller, with longer flowing hair and a more confident grin.
Demon Yui resembles the living person, with wild tangled hair. She wears a brown cape and a horned "demon skull" mask over her tattered uniform, with no shoes; this skull is actually the demon's true head, with eyes hidden within the shadowed sockets.
History
Yui began working at Alcyon Corporation sometime before the invention of diels, which was 18 years before the start of the story. After proving herself a capable researcher, she was assigned to a secret project in one of Alcyon's underground laboratories, and erased from the employee record. Her team searched for a reliable way to distinguish between humans and complete changelings. Although initially disturbed by the lab's unethical methods, including several incidents in which civilians were forcibly possessed so they could study the process, she soon became convinced that this was a necessary evil in order to keep the rest of the world safe. As months and years passed without any breakthroughs, she clung to this justification so she would not have to acknowledge the cruelty of her own actions. Unable to talk to her brother about her new work, she drifted apart from him, and eventually the two lost contact with each other.
During the changeling invasion 11 years ago, she was ordered to stay in the safety of the lab with the other researchers. However, frustrated by her team's lack of progress and desperate to do some good in the world, she left to join the rescue efforts. She managed to help several people escape from a possessed Hiro Nimura, then exorcised him. She directed him to a nearby shelter, then fled the scene before Hiro could ask about her identity.
The experience made her realize that there were much better ways to help people. She began planning an escape from Alcyon Corporation, and compiling evidence of their wrongdoings so she could expose them to the public. However, her plan was discovered and reported by a coworker; to prevent company secrets from getting out, she was brought into oneirosea under the guise of a routine mission and assassinated by her offense division "guards".
Some time later, a demon resembling Yui was spotted roaming in the Hadal Zone of oneirosea. Most agents sent to investigate its nature were killed in the process. Unable to exterminate the demon due to its powerful nature, Alcyon Corporation assigned intelligence division agents to monitor its movements, and mapped and scheduled missions to avoid agents coming into contact with it. Occasionally, troublesome agents were sent to exterminate it as a suicide mission.
Powers & Abilities
Immeasurable Mist Capacity: Demon Yui has evaded Alcyon Corporation's attempts at elimination for eleven years and killed many agents, including several Hadal-ranked ones, in the process. It has power beyond the expected range of normal Hadal-rank demons. Its aura is colorless grey.
Disguiser: Demon Yui has the unique ability to appear as a human, without the distinctive concentric circle eyes that usually identify demons, and a mist signature similar to a human's. It is unknown how it obtained this ability, though Hiro theorizes it may stem from a desperate desire of her soul to maintain its human identity.
Former Abilities
Mare: Yui had a mare as a human, but its subtype and ability are unknown.
Trivia
- "Yui" (結) means "bond" or "connection".
