Appearance

Laplace is a quadrupedal, yellow, tiger-like demon with a white belly and black stripes. There are two shark-like fins along her spine, which ends in a smooth, lizard-like tail. Her fins, ears, tail, and paws are tinted red on the ends. Her eyes are surrounded by black mask-like markings, whose tips extend off her face into trailing jagged whiskers. Additionally, six of her stripes (one on each leg and two on the chest) are eyes in disguise, the black part being the same whisker-like trails as on her face eyes.

Eleven years prior to the start of the story, as a midnight-rank demon, Laplace's body was more elongated and eel-like. She lacked back legs and had more red coloration along her spine.

Personality

Like most other demons in the changeling invasion faction, Laplace values having her own identity, and fears that living in oneirosea will eventually render it meaningless. In the beginning, she was hopeful and somewhat naive; however, after the failure of the first invasion, she has become jaded and somewhat resentful. She draws on her anger and desperation to maintain her identity.

She is something of a loner, and acts apathetic toward most others, human and demon alike. She does not feel much kinship with the other members of her faction; she cooperates with them only so she can accomplish her personal goals, and often speaks dismissively of their intelligence and priorities. She does not wish to become a diel, feeling that being beholden to Alcyon Corporation's laws would restrict her freedom, but has no particular opinion on demons who choose this route either. However, she considers Hiro Nimura to be a traitor and enemy and attacks him on sight, refusing to explain or listen to explanations.

History

Eleven years ago, Laplace was a nameless demon who inhabited the midnight zone of oneirosea. She met another nameless demon, and the two quickly became friends. Laplace began to worry that remaining as a demon meant both of them would eventually change and grow apart from each other, and hoped that both of them could become changelings together and remain friends in the real world. To this end, she joined the changeling invasion faction, and convinced her friend to join as well.

During the first invasion of Semikawa, both Laplace and her friend chose separate humans to possess. However, Laplace was exorcised by an Alcyon Corporation agent. Once forcibly returned to oneirosea, she learned that the invasion was a failure, and most of the demons involved had been exorcised. However, she could not find her friend, and assumed she was one of the few who succeeded. Laplace decided to remain in the faction, hoping to succeed during the next invasion and meet up with her friend somehow.

In the eleven years since, Laplace trained to increase her rank so she could fight off the Alcyon Corporation agents more effectively during the next invasion. She also took the name Laplace. As time went on, she grew to resent her friend's success, though she would not realize this until much later.

Powers & Abilities

Immense Mist Capacity: As an abyssal-rank demon, Laplace is considered moderately to extremely dangerous. She nearly defeated Hiro and Ichika Sasaki, both midnight-rank at the time, and was only prevented from killing them by the arrival of the Benthic Strike Squad. Her aura is yellow, and is often depicted with a jagged, lightning-like shape.

Floating Eyes: Laplace can detach her eyes from her body and control them independently. While detached, they are flat and have razor-sharp edges. They can be used to attack enemies or scout unknown areas.

Lightning Generation: By accelerating quickly, Laplace can build up lightning around her eyes, claws, and teeth. If she then physically attacks an opponent, the electricity will enhance the force of her strikes. This can be combined with her floating eyes to create devastating ranged attacks: she forms a wheel of eyes and spins them to gather electricity, then sends them flying at opponents at supersonic speeds. It is not clear if this is a physiological demon power or a wake.
