Defense Division

The Defense Division is a division of Alcyon Corporation, responsible for performing exorcisms.

Duties

Defense Division agents are tasked with patrolling in the human world and neutralizing any changelings they find. They are equipped with hypnotic sprays to knock possessed humans unconscious without causing them long-term harm.

Since they are often seen patrolling in public spaces, they also serve as the face of Alcyon Corporation. The company often uses them in its PR materials, so agents are sometimes required to participate in interviews, photoshoots, and other marketing activities. As such, they are held to a higher standard of professional behavior than the Offense Division. Well-known Defense agents can even become celebrities in their own right.

Culture

Due to their PR work, Defense Division agents are sometimes stereotyped by other employees as prissy or overly concerned with appearances. However, they are generally well-regarded by the public, who tend to treat them more like important first responders. In fact, popular members regularly receive fan letters and gifts.

Domains are very useful for Defense work, since they can be used to trap changelings in pocket dimensions and keep them from harming others. Many employees who manifest a domain-type mantle are shuffled into this division, and thrown into this work with little practical experience. As a result, employees regard seniority within the division as more important than rank.

They have a rivalry with the Offense Division, which is exacerbated by the fact that Offense agents reassigned to Defense tend to have a difficult time adjusting to exorcism work, often causing collateral damage or committing faux pas that have to be cleaned up by their coworkers. Alcyon Corporation sometimes holds televised combat tournaments for publicity, and many Defense members see the them as an opportunity to show up the other division.
