Overview
The Inverted Castle is situated inside a large cave system in the midnight zone. Its corresponding location in reality is somewhere in the North Pacific Ocean, east of Japan.
The lair itself resembles an upside-down medieval European castle, with multiple keeps and tower spires connected by fortified walls, all extending downward from the cave ceiling. A single spire near the edge of the castle reaches down and touches the lake at the bottom of the cave; this is the only point where infiltrators can sneak into the castle, since flying in would attract the attention of the sentries. Inside each keep are a number of rooms, which have been converted into meeting rooms, living areas, and throne rooms by the invasion faction.
The demon who created the Inverted Castle is named Corbel. Ichika Sasaki speculates that it may be a hadal-rank demon who traveled to a lower zone, due to the incredible size and complexity of its lair. Corbel is not part of the invasion faction; however, it is apparently quite stupid despite its power, so the invaders easily convinced it to allow them to use the castle as a base. The invaders are careful not to damage the castle or allow intruders to damage it, for fear of incurring Corbel's wrath.
By the time of the Nautilus Vault Arc, Corbel had abandoned the Inverted Castle. Some of its towers have been reduced to rubble, while others are slowly crumbling away. Some parts of the castle remain suspended in mid-air despite their foundations having been destroyed, but these parts are unstable and prone to falling at any moment. Some of the demons from the invasion faction, including Laplace, continue to reside in its ruins. However, in the absence of its creator, the castle will eventually disappear and be replaced by oneirosea's default forest-sea terrain.
