Appearance
Akagi is a tall, heavyset man with a medium skintone. He has neck-length messy black hair, with bangs that hang just above his left eye. He almost always sports a wide, toothy grin, revealing his sharp teeth. His eyes are usually narrowed to slits; in the rare moments they're revealed, they are a bright reddish-pink color. Like the other Benthic Strike Team members, he has a pair of cylindrical power limiter implants attached to his skull: his are located on the top of his head, and when deactivated, a pair of small upward-pointing reddish-pink horns protrude from them.
He wears a short-sleeved version of the benthic uniform jacket, with triangular clips at the ends of the hood straps. He does not wear a tie, and his white shirt has several buttons undone. He wears loose magenta pants and a pair of heavy grey boots.
Personality
Akagi is generally a jovial and friendly person. Despite his teammates' disagreeable personalities, he considers them his friends and does what he can to get along with them. He also has a playful streak, and will often gently tease them or challenge them to competitions while on missions. Although he isn't the leader, it often falls to him to mediate the team's arguments.
Akagi also experiences an extreme amount of bloodlust and considers killing to be his greatest joy in life. He cooperates with Alcyon Corporation primarily because they provide him with opportunities to kill and devour demons without facing any consequences. During missions, he often interferes with his coworkers' actions in order to score kills for himself. Fortunately, he does not act on these impulses when it comes to fellow humans, as he knows the company would kick him out if he did.
Powers & Abilities
Immense Mist Capacity: Without his mare, Akagi's mist capacity is noted to be unimpressive by Benthic Strike Team standards, but it still surpasses the average hadal-rank agent. His aura is reddish-pink.
Mare
Lunar Eclipse (月食, Gesshoku) is a manipulation-type mare, which allows Akagi to eat and digest mist. When any mist comes within approximately 20cm of his open mouth, he can choose to inhale and absorb it.
Demons, mist-based attacks, and even the terrain of oneirosea can be consumed this way, allowing him to easily nullify most attacks from the front. Additionally, any mist absorbed by Lunar Eclipse is then incorporated into his own aura, and can be used to launch counterattacks. If given enough time and material to feast on, he can use his mare to infinitely boost his own mist capacity.
Mantle
Moon-Eating Beast (月食獣, Gesshokujū) is a shift-type mantle. When activated, Akagi's head transforms into a monstrous form that somewhat resembles a black wolf head, with a pointed snout and ears, but it is elongated, smooth, and furless. His arms also transform into monstrous clawed appendages from the elbows down.
The transformed head's mouth can split open from the snout to the base of the neck, dramatically improving the range of Lunar Eclipse. It also contains a whiplike tongue that can be used to intercept and devour incoming attacks from all directions.
- Gigantification: While his mantle is active, using Lunar Eclipse to absorb mist causes the transformed parts to grow larger. There seems to be no upper limit to this transformation, but since the rest of his body remains the same size, absorbing too much mist makes it difficult for him to move. This technique is unnamed.
- Regurgitation: Akagi can release the absorbed mist in the form of a beam-shaped energy attack, shrinking back down in the process. This technique is unnamed.
Trivia
- His name contains the characters for red (赤, aka), tree (木, gi), strength / health (健, ken), and two (二, ji).
- Unlike most other shift-type mantles, Moon-Eating Beast's transformation does not affect Akagi's clothes at all. He mentions that he must wear tops with loose collars and short sleeves to avoid damaging them with the gigantification technique. It is unknown if this is a natural mare side effect or simply a quirk of this particular mantle.
