Semikawa City

Semikawa City (蝉川市, Semikawa-shi) is the city where Oneirosea takes place. It is located in western Tokyo, Japan.

Overview

Semikawa City is a large, heavily populated city full of tall skyscrapers. It contains at least four districts. Its climate is mild; several characters have remarked that heavy snow on Christmas was an unusual sight. However, heavy rain seems to be more common than sunny weather year-round.

It is best known for being the place where Alcyon Corporation was founded, and the location of its headquarters. Many people visit the city in order to consult Alcyon Corporation on oneirosea-related issues, and the company has a large amount of influence over local politics. However, it also contains a number of parks and shrines that attract other types of tourism.

Like other large cities, its citizens lead fast-paced, stressful modern lives. As such, it is deeply connected to oneirosea and has higher rates of possession than rural areas.

History

Some time between 30 and 40 years ago, Alcyon Corporation was founded in Semikawa City. It was initially located in an office building, but a dedicated headquarters building was constructed later on.

11 years before the start of the story, a group of demons organized a mass invasion of Semikawa City. At midnight, each demon simultaneously possessed a different human and rampaged through the city as changelings, intending to distract Alcyon Corporation's agents so that some of them would survive long enough to reach the complete stage. Agents from every division were deployed to combat the threat. In the end, the invasion was successfully repelled, though there were several casualties.

Eight years before the start of the story, Labyrinth opened a branch in Semikawa.

Locations

Alcyon Corporation Headquarters

Alcyon Corporation's headquarters sits on a hill overlooking Semikawa. It consists of a cylindrical main building and two symmetrical wings which curve inward to surround a circular courtyard. According to Hiro, it was designed to be visible and recognizable from many parts of the city.

Semikawa Aquarium

An aquarium located in the 2nd district. It has a deep sea fish exhibit that was funded by Alcyon Corporation. As such, Alcyon Corporation agents sometimes receive free or discounted tickets from the company. However, according to Ichika Sasaki, these tickets are rarely used since most agents already deal with fish-like demons in their day jobs and have no desire to see more fish in their spare time.

Semikawa TV Tower

A broadcasting tower with a scenic observation deck. It was shown during the invasion arc.

Semikawa University

The university that Nanami Murakami attends. It is mentioned several times, but not actually shown.

Trivia

• The kanji characters in Semikawa mean "cicada river". When reversed, they spell the Japanese word for kingfisher.
