Appearance

At first glance, the pale forest demon does not appear to be a demon at all, merely a section of oneirosea that resembles a forest made up of pale "trees". The trunk of each tree is roughly cylindrical and grows straight up, even out of tilted ground. Some of them have leafless branches, and once they split from the trunks these grow straight up as well.

All of these trees are connected below the ground: together, they make up a single demon with an enormous, distributed body. Its core is found at the center of the forest, usually buried; it takes the form of a tangle of pale roots, roughly humanoid in form, with a bulbous knot at the top where the head would be. There are two thin vertical slits in the knot where brownish-green demon eyes peek out.

Personality

It is unclear if the pale forest demon is sapient. It does not speak or make any noise, even when injured, and its attempts to corral the slayers and trap them within itself may be simple hunting behavior driven by instinct. However, this would not fully explain why it continues to torment the slayers even after separating them from each other, or the malicious impression multiple characters get from its aura. Since it was successfully neutralized, these questions will likely never be answered.

Powers & Abilities

Mycelial Body: The pale forest demon possesses a unique body consisting of thousands of thin filaments, allowing it to spread itself across many square kilometers despite its relatively small actual "size". Its extremely decentralized nature means its aura is spread out and diluted, making others struggle to grasp its true power or locate its core. However, this also makes it less powerful when it wishes to attack directly, forcing it to rely on subtler means.

Forest Maze: The demon seems to have some control over any terrain of oneirosea it buries itself under. When hunted, it forced its would-be slayers to walk in circles, separate from each other, and stay within its territory. It is not clear if this was a wake or other specific ability, or if it achieved this effect simply by burying and unburying its trees to disorient them and create fake landmarks.
